Raveendran Mash

Sangeetha of the UK paid homage to one of the most versatile Malayalam music composer of the modern era -
Mr Ravindran Mash. In a career spanning nearly twenty five years, he maintained the purity of carnatic music in his songs and at the same time composed some everlasting folk songs. While paying tribute to the legendary musical composer, the playback singer Mrs Chitra commented that Ravindran master will always remain as an immortal figure among musical fans. The great playback singer Madhu balakrishnan added that songs composed by Ravindran were one of the main factors behind the commercial success of MalayalamCassette and his musical compositions will always be eternal.

All the artists who participated in the programme at Fairfield Halls in remembrance of the great musical director expressed immense thanks to the organisers of Sangeetha for presenting a musical evening with a difference.

 

Bharath Gopi

Bharath Gopi was an actor in a league of his own. For the well educated and prolific writer Bharat Gopi, evolving as a performer and a good human being was more important than cultivating an image or wooing stardom. Aesthetic satisfaction rather than monetary benefits motivated him. This rare quality coupled with his extraordinary ability to take any role in acting made him icon in the film world.

Sangeetha of the UK conferred “Abhinava Puraskaram” on to this great artist for his outstanding contribution to arts and literature. Commenting on the award, Bharath Gopi told the audience that his current physical disabilities have never stood in his way of becoming an accomplished artist. He eloquently described that he was still active in movies and his recent publications such as “Abhinayam Anubhavam” had evoked a good public response.

Film world is greatly indebted to this great actor whose contribution is an indelible imprint in the minds of millions of movie fans.

 

Sukumari

Sangeetha of the UK has honoured Padmasree Sukumari in London by conferring her “Abhinava Puraskaram” in recognition to Sukumari's outstanding contribution to arts and culture, especially in the field of acting and dance.

The panel comprising of Prakash,Najeeb, Jayaprakash Panicker, Ramesh, Vijayakumar, Abhilash, Sundaresan, Sujathan and Suraja Prakash have also recognised that Smt.Sukumari was not simply an actress but also on avid contributor to many charitable causes.

The award ceremony for the year 2003 has assumed special significance as it coincided with the announcement that Sangeetha of the UK adopted a charitable organisation called “FOCUS FORTH”. The organisation based in Kaniyapuram near Trivandrum provides mentally retarded children with the psychological, social and educational support they need to rehabilitate and integrate them into the main stream of our society.

While presenting the award, British Cabinet Minster for Labour and Sports, Stuart Collins paid tribute to members of Sangeetha for supporting people with disabilities, thereby setting good examples of community work. Collins also acknowledged that Sukumari's incredible dancing skills coupled with her ability to act in comic scenes had left him in awe that she would remain as an immortal legend in the minds of millions of movie fans.

The award presentation ceremony was accompanied by variety of entertainment. The famous play back singer Biju Narayanan captivated the audience with his mesmerise voice and the support from Umadevi took the listener to a dizzy height of enjoyment.

Another act in the programme was the comic parades from Navas and Shajun. The famous actor Bharat Murali gave introductory speech, which clearly demonstrates his oratory skill. The speech was followed by a series of elegant dances by Mayoori, Krishna and Renuka Menon
